Console vs PC is a polarizing debate that comes up quite frequently. I’ve always favored the freedom, and power of a PC, but still recognized the convenience of a console. I however also envisioned a possibility to fill that space between the two, the Console PC as I’ve called it. In the past I’ve described how i could see companies like Valve using it’s steam platform or Microsoft with its LIVE platform producing a stripped down, game-centric operating system that could be installed on reference hardware. These systems could them be sold retail at fixed prices. My point in all this is that after about 10 years of thinking of how it might pan out. This video is, in my opinion, the first real idea of what it might turn out like. However this is geared toward mobile gaming and not my living room.

For those new to these products
My Though:
I think in my last post I talked about Kinect vs Move vs Wii. I particularly hit on how I think Microsoft has an advantage over Move and Wii because it’s not just an extension of the existing control paradigm. In fact it’s a complete shit in the paradigm. Someone had the same idea. Point being, Lately I’ve been seeing a lot about individuals using the Kinect hardware in unique ways.
This evening I was lucky to be treated to a Silly Comic by Tim Buckley and it sparked a thought. I then remembered the OCZ NIA. An interest piece of hardware that is perhaps ahead of it’s time. But then… maybe not. Imagine if you mixed the NIA with Kinect? What kind of interactions can you envision? Perhaps with the NIA, star wars would be derailed?
A side note… I’m waiting to see the 1st game to use voice commands. Imagine playing ESIV Oblivion where you used your voice to cast spells? Or any game where you TALKED to NPCs. I’d LOVE to play dragon age where I can actually participate in dialoge. mmm I need a shower.

I’ve read a lot of reviews trying to compare the technology in Kinect, WiiMotion, and Playstation move. I’m sorry to say but these technology’s aren’t even on the same level. Arguing that “Move” is better then WiiMotion I will give you, they are similar enough that you can make this comparison. But Kinect is a whole different monster completely. I read someone saying that Kinect “Isn’t for them” and that the move was more something they can see being for more than casual gamers. I submit the following image as exhibit A. Now tell me what the difference is between Move and Kinect. ”Buttons”? is that all Sony can argue? I again refer you to the picture I posted. The potential that Kinect posses is greater than the potential that Move offers because the set of potential for Move, is contained in the set of Kinect potential (thank you discrete math).
I’ve read reviews for Kinect and one thing seems to be consistent ”When it works it works great, when it doesn’t it just doesn’t” This isn’t a problem with the technology as I’ve come to find out. The accuracy that games offer is strictly with the developers.
I give MS about 6 months before they start selling batons with buttons as I’ve depicted. Then the playing field is really level (not really)

This is just another example of the behavior I don’t like seeing. Apple is full of it :-\

#Futurama In honor of this allow me to share something extra :D
Meatwad: Why don’t you ask that TV if he minds showin’ me some Futurama. I like me some Futurama.
Master Shake: Well, now we’re too damned cheap to receive it. So go the hell over to Carl Central and watch it to your heart’s content.
Meatwad: Carl gets Futurama?
Master Shake: He didn’t even want it until we started watching it
